In New York, polyurethane fabrics company Ultrafabrics has introduced a biobased performance fabric for aviation interiors. Launched at May’s Aircraft Interiors Expo, the material “seamlessly integrates renewable plant-based materials” into a multi-layer construction, company execs recently told Business Jet Interiors International.
Researchers use electricity to synthesize materials from waste molecules
In Ohio, chemists have been working to synthesize high-value materials from waste molecules for years. Now, an international collaboration of scientists is exploring ways to use electricity to streamline the process. In their study, recently published in Nature Catalysis, researchers demonstrated that carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, can be converted into a type of liquid fuel called methanol in a highly efficient manner.
Indian auto companies to produce 100% ethanol-run vehicles: Nitin Gadkari
In India, The Economic Times reports Nitin Gadkari, India’s Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, announced that Indian auto companies are set to produce cars and two-wheelers that run entirely on ethanol. Highlighting this shift, Gadkari arrived at Parliament in a Toyota vehicle capable of running on 100% ethanol, a world-first featuring a flex engine compliant with Euro 6 emission standards and achieving net-zero emissions.

In Germany, Der Spiegel reports The Federal Environment Agency (UBA) has raised concerns about the environmental benefits of HVO100 biodiesel, countering the positive stance of Transport Minister Volker Wissing. While Wissing promotes HVO100, derived from used cooking oil, as a high-quality and sustainable solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in transportation, the UBA disagrees.

Cadillac announces convertible concept car with mycelium interior elements
In Michigan, luxury car company Cadillac has unveiled SOLLEI, a luxury, coach-built, all-electric convertible concept car with mycelium interior materials produced by MycoWorks. The convertible features a “striking 55-inch pillar-to-pillar screen,” a luxurious interior, and “sophisticated exterior lighting choreography.” The name SOLLEI is derived from “sun” (SOL) and “leisure” (LEI) and captures Cadillac’s vision of a “leisurely, open-air lifestyle.

In Singapore, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), one of the world’s fastest-growing data center providers announced the deployment of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to its data centres in Singapore, as a renewable fuel replacing conventional diesel fuel for backup generators. STT GDC is the first data centre operator in Singapore to deploy HVO for use in backup generators across its facilities in Singapore, starting with deployment of an initial 50,000 liters.
Swire Shipping completes sustainable biofuel trial

In the Netherlands, Offshore Energy reported that Singapore-based shipping company Swire Shipping, part of Swire Group, has completed a sustainable B24 biofuel trial on its transpacific service. MV Suva Chief, a containership on the Sun Chief Express Ocean service, was bunkered in Hong Kong with sustainable B24 biofuel, a blend of sustainable biodiesel of waste origin and conventional fuels, according to the report.
