Indonesia looking at 100% green renewable diesel production by 2022

In Indonesia, the Jakarta Globe newspaper reports that the government is seeking domestic and foreign investors alike to help boost renewable diesel production from palm oil with an eye on aviation biofuel as well. The secretary-general of the National Energy Committee said the country is aiming for 100% green biodiesel production by 2022 that will be consumed domestically and won’t be available for export. Currently on 12% of the country’s refiners can produce biofuel.

In Malaysia, the Bernama news agency reports that the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries sees biodiesel demand in Malaysia and Indonesia rising to 11 million metric tons next year, 5 million tons higher than this year, thanks to the B30 and B20 policies implemented in the respective countries in 2019. The council sees the controversy surrounding deforestation resolving itself by 2025, bringing back further demand for palm oil biodiesel and increasing prices in turn.
